MO "resurrects" the kitten heel...

Here we go with more fashion posts!

With her practical, yet stylish sense Michelle Obama has become the muse for designers and housewives across the country. Shying away from the sky-high stiletto trend that has gained popularity in recent years, Obama prefers kitten heels and flats for their comfort and practicality while still remaining fashion-forward.

Watch out! They're selling stuff! :)

  1. i think it's totally timeless and classy!
and i would bet that- as a black woman, MO may have to put more thought into her wardrobe - i.e. the "message" it sends and how it may reinforce stereotypes around race and gender- that a white first lady would never have to. If MO were to make sky-high sex in the city stilettos her trademark, it would likely draw swift criticism and trigger pundits' stereotypes of the hypersexual black woman.

  2. it's interesting how much folks are talking about fashion because we've got a lot of things going on here: both the presidential and vice presidential couples are rather attractive, which is the first time we've had sex symbols in the white house in a very long time (there's kennedy, of course, but people can make arguments for reagan, carter and ford). the obamas and the bidens are very open about PDA (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/11/02/obama-pda-the-weekend-edi_n_140239.html). not sloppy or anything, just open. that's also something we haven't really seen much of in the white house. what am i getting at? it's interesting how only certain displays of sexuality are permissible. MO can publicly embrace and kiss her husband, but then wearing high heels becomes hypersexual? there's a problem here.

in any case, i think both kitten heels and flats make for good-looking shoes. good for you, MO.
